Gone are the days of traditional heating methods that drain resources and compromise safety. Today, we're diving into a world where sustainability meets style, where every flicker of flame brings not just warmth, but peace of mind. Electrical fireplaces are taking over homes everywhere and are a big upgrade on older gas fireplaces.

If you have a gas fireplace, you don’t need to feel left out – the conversion process from a gas to an electric fireplace is easier than you might realize! Read on to learn more about swapping your gas for electricity.

The Advantages of Converting to an Electric Fireplace

First, let’s go over why should you convert to an electric fireplace in the first place. Electricity comes with several advantages over gas fireplaces, including:

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Cost-effectiveness

  • Effortless integration and elevated features

  • More control over temperature

  • Easier to repair or replace

The Process of Converting from Gas to Electric

If you have an existing gas fireplace, you might be asking yourself “How easy is it to convert to an electric fireplace?”

Rest assured that transitioning to an electric fireplace is seamless. However, please keep in mind that it is generally not a DIY project. As long as you are retaining the services of professionals like the team at Don’s Heating & Cooling, your conversion should go smoothly and be done in only a few hours, depending on various factors.

How do we do it? It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. The gas line is disconnected and secured with a cap. As natural gas is a highly combustible substance, securing the line is paramount in preventing leaks, thereby eliminating the potential risks of house fires. This step must be done by a qualified gas technician and is not a do-it-yourself kind of job.

  2. A dedicated electrical line is run. A gas fireplace may have an electrical connection, but it probably won’t be a dedicated line. To ensure that the connection from your fireplace can handle the 1500-watt demand, we connect a line directly to the electrical panel.

  3. The electrical insert is installed. Using the existing cavity whenever possible, your experienced technician will slide the unit where your old fireplace once stood and will ensure that its functions are prescribed. There are very limitations on materials used around the fireplace as there is no residual heat. This also means that TVs can be placed much lower above an electric fireplace than they can be above gas units.
